The Gate

Reflections on our later years

Swedish alternative country band Gravy Train reflects on elderliness in their new single “The Gate”. With a sound that can draw parallelisms to the style of The Band and The Clash, the song’s mature lyrics portray a retrospective look back on life.

“It’s nice to get old. Really nice”, reflects Jonas Frykman, the band’s lead man. “I’m reaching 55 in march”, he relays, as he reflects on the personal inspiration behind the song’s lyrics.

“The Gate” was recorded in October 2022 at Stigbergsstudion in Gothenburg with the assistance of producer Petter Lithvall.

With a similar sound to the one in their 2022 single “A Brand New Day”, the song’s creative process began with a single root idea, “The first thing that came to me was the melody in the chorus. And it stuck”.

Gravy Train released their first singles on Spotify in 2019, continuing with more songs in 2020. In 2022 they released their EP “The c-sessions”.

The band got signed to Gothenburg-based Rexius Records in 2021. They’re now preparing for the release of “The Gate” on March 24th.
