Set Me Free

About longing and release

Swedish rock solo project Winterland returns with “Set Me Free”, an evocative song full of poetic imagery and a classic rock inspired sound that can be reminiscent of the style of artists like Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty or Hall and Oates.

Explaining the song’s main topic, Fredrik Nilsson, the project’s creator relays, “it’s about longing for someone”. With an atmospheric sound and lyrics, “Set Me Free” is, as described by Nilsson, the product of swift inspiration, “I just wrote what came out!”

The song resumes Winterland’s classic soft rock sound and songwriting style. With a writing process described by Fredrik as devoid of any “agenda or topics” and completely driven by momentary inspiration.

Recorded in Nilsson’s own Winterlandstudio in August 2022, the song was entirely written, produced and mixed by him, enlisting the help of Björn Engelmann for the mastering process.

A music enthusiast from an early age, Fredrik Nilsson has played with several bands over the years, allowing him to develop a mature sound, which permeated his previous project, the band Waterhill.

Nilsson’s Winterland got signed to Gothenburg-based Rexius Records in 2021. He’s now preparing for the release of “Set Me Free” on November 18th.
