Unveiling the pain
Swedish indie pop singer Julia K goes through an emotional catharsis in “Lie”, an expressive song with profound emotional openness. With a sincere vocal performance that reminds of the sound of Phoebe Bridgers, the song’s intimate style flows in an everlasting buildup.
Julia describes the lyrics with an example of daily life, ”when someone asks you ”Are you ok?” and you say yes, but you’re really not. So you lie”. Reflecting on this common occurrence, she wonders, “People put up facades every day and so do I, but what if we all can stop?”.
The song reflects Julia’s choice to move on a different path, opening up herself to a different approach, “I started writing about this because I was tired of lying everyday, to everyone else and to myself”.
Recorded with the assistance of producer Petter Lithvall, who also mixed and mastered the track, “Lie” reflects Julia’s versatility and genuinity as a composer, “I wrote this song in about two hours with my guitar”, “it’s very personal to me”.
Julia K released her debut song “I Wanna Cry” in 2022. In 2021, she signed with Gothenburg-based Rexius Records, she’s currently preparing to release “Lie” on February 10th.
