Janus

Overcoming a deep inner struggle

Swedish rap artist Xersize returns with “Janus”, a personal song about the rapper’s mental health struggles. With an intimate, reflective sound, the sincere and articulated vocals remind of the sound of artists like NF and Hopsin.

Speaking about the track, the artist describes, “The main topic is about the two different sides of me, like the Roman god Janus and his two faces”. About this dichotomy, he adds, “It’s about the inner me that wants peace and the side of me that just keeps creating an inner chaos”.

Further reflecting on the track and his personal experience, the artist relays, “My main inspiration for this song is having spent 14 years struggling with a serious depression. Every time I had a good day, my depression would pop up almost like a voice in my head and break everything down”.

Recorded in the rapper’s living room, the artist enlisted the help of producer Robinholta, who produced, mixed and mastered the track in his studio.

Xersize’s debut album “Xersize” was released in 2019, followed by his second album “Välkommen Hem” in 2020. The rapper got signed to Gothenburg-based Rexius Records in 2021. He’s currently preparing for the release of “Janus” on August 12th.
