On the perils of toxic love
Swedish indie rock band Koala Bar releases “Danger”, a reflective song about the difficulties of toxic relationships. With a relatable and calm sound, the song reminds of the style of artists like The Tallest Man On Earth and Mumford & Sons.
Speaking on the track’s lyrics, one of the band members reflects, “The main topic of this song is a reminiscence of a destructive relationship”. Inspired by real life events, the song deals with the complex negative emotions that can arise when going through such relationships.
The events, described as “a real-life relationship that back in the day felt completely poisonous (. . .) But at the same time (it) was filled with unconditional love”, show an ambiguity that is also reflected in the song’s sound and lyrics.
Recorded in the Stigbergstudion in Gothenburg in the fall of 2021, the band enlisted the help of producer Petter Lithvall to assist them with the project.
Starting as a duo in 2015, Koala Bar gained recognition after being nominated in music magazine Gaffa’s Best New Artist category with their 2018 debut album “Di Sorte”. In 2020, they released their second full-length album “Ethos Pathos Locos”. The band has recently welcomed two more members, becoming a quartet.
Koala Band signed with Gothenburg-based Rexius Records in June 2022, they’re preparing the release of “Danger” on September 30th.
