Love is Harder in the Light

Love is Harder in the Light

On his second album, Swedish songwriter Edvin Stais widens the frame while keeping the lens intimate. Love is Harder in the Light gathers eight songs that weigh the glow of devotion against the truths that appear when daylight hits—stories told through 12-string guitars, Rhodes and organ, saxophone brushstrokes and the close breath of layered harmonies.

Recorded at Studio Hathi with producer Victor Gardner and the touring band, the album captures performances that feel lived-in: steady tempos, roomy drums, vocals placed upfront, melodies that carry quiet resolve. It’s soft rock with backbone, indie sensibility with classic songcraft, Scandinavian in mood but reaching west toward the warmth of California.

Three singles paved the road—“Let Her”, “All We Left Behind”, and “Wild Eyed”—each sketching a different stage of letting go. At the center sits the new focus track “Above the Sky”, a mid-tempo lift where saxophone lines thread through a chorus about finding safety beyond the moment’s fade. It’s Stais at his most open-armed, turning private memory into something communal.

Across the sequence, Stais writes about repair, patience, and the long echo of the past. The arrangements give space for the words to land; the band answers with restraint and small bursts of color. It’s a record for late drives, first light, and the quiet work of starting again.
