Blues Is (Not) Dead
MakeUpYourMind Announces New Album “Blues Is (Not) Dead”
Focus track: “Blues Is (Not) Dead”
Milan/Hanover — Blues Is (Not) Dead is a bold statement from Italian progressive project MakeUpYourMind, led by multi-instrumentalist and philosophy PhD Simone Marsilio. The record reframes the blues not as a museum piece but as living energy—channelled through modern progressive and alternative metal.
Across eight tracks, MakeUpYourMind blends precise, muscular riffing with unusual colours and intellectually charged storytelling. The title track, “Blues Is (Not) Dead,” threads slide-leaning guitar figures with the bite of Alex Paclin’s harmonica—an unexpected, gripping texture inside a heavy framework. On “Luck for Merit,” the project stretches further, inviting Nicolas Julian Weaver (trumpet, saxophone) to lift the arrangements into a brassy, cinematic space.
Lyrically, the album moves from personal renewal (“Funeral of My Mind”) to industry critique (“Music Industry”), from stalled ambition (“Motivation”) to self-definition (“I Will Not Become Like You”). Marsilio’s academic lens never turns didactic; instead, it sharpens songs that ask real questions and refuse easy answers.
