Swedish Girls – Through the Magic of Infectious Music
A Refreshing Sound in Bedroom Pop
Swedish Girls is a Chicago-based bedroom pop solo project on a mission to create catchy pop songs. Influenced by a wide range of artists such as The Cure, Charli XCX, and bands like The 1975 and The Strokes, the project’s versatility and uniqueness are bound to resonate with audiences.
The journey began as a collaboration between friends and roommates, Ryan Donahue and Grant Henricksen, who bonded while emulating their favorite pop songs by The Cure. As it evolved, Swedish Girls transitioned into Ryan’s solo venture, expanding to incorporate a broader array of sounds and influences.
“There’s no better feeling than coming up with a catchy pop song,” Ryan shares. He finds joy and inspiration in blending familiar sounds with innovative twists across a myriad of genres such as pop, indie rock, alternative, and 80s new wave.
With lyrics that delve into themes such as love, high fashion, breakups, travel, and the everyday anxieties of life, Swedish Girls transforms personal experiences into universal stories. Ryan begins each song as an experiment, channeling the essence of his musical influences and gradually infusing his personal touch, which allows each track to evolve uniquely.
After the release of their debut single “Chasing Dragons” in 2020, Swedish Girls has released various singles and an EP. In 2023, the project signed with Rexius Records, poised to continue captivating fans with its infectious sound.
