People Being People – A Wildcard for Life’s Duplicity
Blending indie rock, dream pop, and alternative rock into a sound that’s both atmospheric and emotionally candid, People Being People is a band led by Spanish musician Inés Torrente—born from a love of contrast, contradiction, and connection. Fans of Wolf Alice, The Black Keys, The Last Dinner Party, Alvvays, or Pacifica will feel at home in their gently surreal soundscapes—perfect for playlists diving into introspective alt-pop or dreamy rock moods.
Previously a solo project, People Being People’s debut album Up My Sleeve (2024) introduced a voice unafraid to explore life’s emotional opposites. Inés writes about luck, self-love, loss, existential doubt, and the strange game of living—with raw honesty, cheeky humor, and vivid metaphors. Central to their world is the figure of the Joker—not a villain, but a wildcard: a symbol that, like music itself, offers rescue in hard times, amplifies joy in the good ones, and reminds us not to take either too seriously.
The band’s local breakthrough came after Inés formed a live trio with longtime collaborators and producers Coco Sauvetre and Pedro Fonseca. Together, they performed in a national contest that led to People Being People’s first live appearance at Benicàssim International Festival.
Now based in Amsterdam and signed to Rexius Records, the band features Inés Torrente (voice, rhythm guitar), Adrián Gutiérrez (lead guitar), Tom Ruys (bass), and Julian Lorson (drums). They are currently preparing their second album, continuing their journey through the beautiful contradictions of being human.
