Johnny Angel – Anarchic Storyteller
Johnny Angel crafts a blend of modern folk rock, experimental synth textures, and explorative rock energy that sits naturally beside artists like Dispatch, Kurt Vile, Deerhunter, and Rowland S. Howard. His songs fit late-night mixes, alternative folk playlists, and experimental rock collections. His sound moves between bluesy harmonicas, driving folk rock, and experimental synth layers, giving each track a distinct energy and atmosphere.
Raised in the Pine Barrens and now based in Philadelphia, he first ventured into music fronting hardcore and punk bands in the 90s before returning with a renewed focus on storytelling. His lyrics explore rebellion, love, spirituality, depression, and drugs, filtering lived experience through a freeform approach that resists preconceived ideas.
A prolific creator, Johnny Angel has released multiple EPs, including Sober and Searching for A Drunk Ever After, Earthlings, and The Stickup, along with a run of singles that shift between folk rock and experimental synth-driven tracks. His comeback show at The Fire in Philadelphia marked a key milestone, celebrated for its intensity and the community that helped bring him back on stage.
Alongside his music, he authored the book Punk Rock Died at My House in The Pines and continues to expand his world with new work. With two upcoming singles on Rexius Records, Johnny Angel invites listeners into anarchic and immersive sonic journeys.
